Then tried to open my Applications Folder.
The only folder visible is a folder called Chrome Apps
I cannot access any of my applications from the Application Folder
Just before installing OS 10.11.6 my Applications Folder worked - and I ran Disk Utilities (I have been having problems opening documents in Word 2016 and have been trying to find a solution for that one.) Now everything is much worse.
SO FRUSTRATING!!

My Chrome browser only rarely opens when I start it. I'll try to start Chrome, the icon in the task bar bounces for a bit and then nothing. If I query it I get the 'Application Not Responding' and have to Force Quit. Every once in a while it will open and then it's fine. When I do the Force Quit I get the confirmation dialog and after I confirm there's usually a quick flash of the window Chrome was trying to open up. The window closes and I get the 'you forced Chrome to quit, do you want to report it?' dialog.
Opening Chrome without extensions doesn't help, but when I rebooted the Mac in Safe Mode I could open Chrome with not problem. (for clarity - Mac in safe mode - not chrome)
I also get a similar result with QuickTime Player 7, although I haven't tried whether it opens in Safe Mode
Going back a couple of versions in chrome doesn't help. The recent update to 10.11.6 didn't change anything.
